Dated 1941, this seems a little earlier than most of the other Will Evans Blitz paintings, in the background is the vast shell of Ben Evans store, the blackened facade not yet demolished. The gaunt corner shop is shown in a number of photographs of this area, with nothing much to recognise around it. It is almost certainly Coakley’s Fish Shop at 1 Goat Street.
